New Students

The queen of Bhutan has sent 4 young Bhutanese women to my school to learn how to sew. They arrived two days ago, and they will be here for six weeks. They seem very interesting...then again, they are coming from a very interesting place. Bhutan is a small country in the Himalayas that is, for all practical purposes, just about closed off to foreigners. They have a national dress code, and rather than measuring GDP, they measure GNH (Gross National Happiness). The national language is Dzongkha, although 23 other languages from the Tibetan language family are spoken in the country. The Dzongkha name for Bhutan is Druk Yul, which means "Dragon Land". With a name like that it has to be a wonderful place....
